OK, it’s time to fess up. If you currently shoot anything, air or otherwise, there’s a great chance your first shots were from a Daisy Red Ryder. I got mine for Christmas of my First-Grade year. And no, I didn’t shoot my eye out. I won’t tell you how long ago that was. Let’s just say it was before the time when station wagons roamed the earth.

In this contentious day and age, I think a campaign slogan we can all agree on might be "a BB gun in every home, or better yet, two." It’s a great way to get youngsters started with any type of shooting sports while learning responsibility, focus, and most importantly, safety. With "BB evangelism" in mind, we’d like to share some information from our friends at Daisy this week. Yes, the Daisy BB Gun Nationals are coming up June 30 through July 3, 2018, but even if you can’t attend, you and your “evangelees” can benefit from the surrounding education, preparation, and even competition.

With that said, read on...

FROM THE INDUSTRY

Umarex USA, Inc. has launched a new “TV” show—Real Air Gun Hunting, Umarex USA’s foray into digital programming dedicated solely to using air guns as a hunter’s tool.

Real Air Gun Hunting launched April 5th, 2018 on CarbonTV, an app that streams the show on demand. The CarbonTV app can be downloaded for use with many platforms: Apple Store, Google Play, XBOX One, Roku, your SmartTV and Amazon Fire. You can also follow Real Air Gun Hunting on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) Commission has announced that effective September 1, 2018, .30 caliber and larger airguns such as the .357 Caliber Benjamin™ Bulldog and air bows such as the Benjamin Pioneer Airbow™ will be legal means of take to harvest deer and turkey.

Texas joins a growing list of states allowing for the use of big bore airguns and/or the Airbow during their hunting seasons. Arizona, Virginia, Missouri, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maryland, and Washington State allow big game animals to be legally taken with the Airbow. Feral hogs can be taken in Georgia, Florida and Texas while coyotes and other predators may be hunted with the Airbow in over 30 states. Georgia and South Carolina allow the Airbow to be used for alligator hunting.

The first medals were awarded today at the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships on the Olympic Training Center campus in Colorado Springs. Along with Junior Olympic glory, today’s Men’s Air Rifle winners also earned appointments to the National Junior Team, as well as the team that will compete at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Changwon, South Korea later this summer.

Top honors went once again to reigning Men’s Air Rifle National Junior Olympic Champion Logan Ogden (Galway, New York). The Air Force Academy sophomore has been dominating Men’s Air Rifle competition as of late, consistently posting world-class scores, as well as winning the Winter Airgun Championships in December and the Open-level overall selection process for the World Championship Team.

Registration for the 2018 Crosman All-American Field Target Championship, which will be held July 20-22, 2018 in Rochester, NY, is now open. Dedicated air gun competitors from around the globe can now register for the three-day competition which features multiple shooting matches including the main two-day rifle event.

At the USA Shooting headquarters inside the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, the beginning of April always means one thing – the start of the National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships (NJOSC). The top Junior Rifle/Pistol athletes in the country will be making their annual pilgrimage to Colorado for three weeks of competition, with the Men’s Rifle competition kicking things off on Saturday.

The C-License course is the first of the ISSF Academy's international licenses and marks the first step to an internationally recognized coaching license. The course has been designed to provide the coach with a wide understanding of the role of coaching and the skills required to work at a national and international level.

The latest ISSF Academy C Course for International Coaches License has successfully been completed at the ISSF Academy Accredited Training Centre in Kuortane, Finland.

The course, which commenced on the 24rd of March and concluded on the 29th of March, saw twenty coaches being put through an intensive series of workshops and lectures, culminating in a series of examinations which tested their sport science and shooting science knowledge.
